As an Exercise Physiologist with a physiology lab and the ability to order blood testing, I can look for the big clues that direct me to the root causes. This includes the clues from a detailed history and current symptoms. Here are some examples of how we have helped some of my clients.
Ron
Ron was concerned about his cardiac health now that he is in his 50s. He came in for an ECG Exercise Stress Test and added on the cardiac risk blood markers we helped him get. Results showed that he had metabolic syndrome which is the number one cause of developing plaque in arteries. One of his big alarm bells under metabolic syndrome included insulin resistance which is a very big driver of plaque. This is usually the result of too many carbs, particularly processed carbs and vegetable oils, over a long period of time. I assured Ron that this process was catching risk early and there was a solution to getting him off the path of plaque development and subsequent risk of heart attack and stroke. The answer here was moving to a low carb diet, starting at an acceptable level for Ron. He took on the task with diligence and blood markers were already starting to turn after 3 months. We are continuing the regime.
Sarah
Sarah presented with low energy and resistance to weight loss. We started with a resting metabolism test in my lab. It showed a slow metabolism which supported her symptoms. I then suspected that the thyroid (the master gland of metabolism) could be involved or perhaps insulin resistance was involved in the picture. I gave a blood form to Sarah to test a full thyroid panel, glucose and insulin. Results showed that the thyroid was sluggish and ruled out insulin resistance as being a factor. I then helped her with nutrition to support thyroid hormone production. Three months later blood tests were repeated which showed the thyroid panel had returned to optimal function. Sarah reported more energy, better sleep and weight was starting to shift. We are continuing the regime for another 3 months.
Services
Initial phone consultation (15 min, free) to determine if you are ready for this type of process. Not everyone is ready to make changes to restore their health and they would not be suitable to start such a programme for now.
- Initial meeting (1 hour) to assess goals, symptoms and history – $150
- Blood Analysis and Report – $180 (blood tests paid separately at Awanui Lab)
- Analysis of history and 5-day food-mood-poop diary, and formulation of a 2-month functional nutrition plan including recommended supplements if needed – $275
- Meeting (1 hour) to go through results and plan – $105
- Review meeting at 2 months to determine the next steps
